Heart Ring

This ring was designed by Jewellery, Hollowware and Design student Jade Dumrath. The production of this ring was part of an assignment at the NSCAD University in Halifax, Canada (Nova Scotia College of Art & Design).

The assignment was to create a ring with at least three solder seams. Jade Dumrath chose the heart as her major motive and created this wonderful simple and abstract ring.
The ring shows two bands, one inner and one outer, with four tubes sticking out of them. The tubes represent the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC), Superior Vena Cava (SVC), Aorta and Pulmonary Veins (shown here as one vein).
The only sites where the inner and outer rings attach to each other are at the two tubes representing the SVC and pulmonary vein.

The tubes are hollow so that one can see all the way through them. In the upper picture the coloured interior of the tubes can be seen; blue for the vessels carrying oxygen poor blood (here SVC) and red for the vessels carrying oxygen rich blood (aorta and pulmonary vein).
