“Anatomie-Spiegel”: an anatomical mirror
Today’s post has more of a tech background, but this multimedia tool definitely has a connection to art! The project has been started by two art students - Alexander Börner and Simon Kirsch - at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. The team, now consisting of the two initiators and digital designer and creative coder Marcel Wiessler, is still working on the project, hopefully to achieve their aim to create a software package for museums, schools et cetera.
By now you might think, what is it about? It’s about the “Anatomie-Spiegel” (anatomy mirror), a multimedia installation which gives us a look at human anatomy in “an intuitive and playful way”. With the use of a Kinect v.2, the movements on screen (virtual body model) are controlled by the movements of the person in focus. The closer you get to the screen the more of the virtual model’s inner parts are exposed. It starts of with the muscular layer to finally end with circulatory system. Between that, passing the organs and skeleton, constantly providing the user with basic information on shape, volume, position and names.
Anatomical accuracy was realized with the help of many sources of human anatomy and additional advisory support from Prof. Dr. Schultka from the Institute of Anatomy of the Martin Luther University in Halle.
