Effect of the environment on participation
The ICF puts forward the hypothesis that the environment a disabled person experiences affects the relationship between themir ability to complete functional components. however, this study looked at the effect the school environment can have on Cerebal palsy suffers and found the results did not support this.
Participation is defined as involvement in daily life situations, and is thought to assist building relationships and developing skill to meet social demands.
We are gaining understanding of the role environment can play on the functional lives of the disabled population and wheelchair users. This study looks at ;
1: Gross Motor Function
2: Parental perception
3: School participation, task support and activity performance in the following situations
- Transport to and from school
- School meal
Parent feared that there were three barriers to their children's participation:
1: Lack of social support
2: Negative attitudes
3: Lack of physical enviroments
However, the research found that the environmental factors made little impact on levels of participation, the greater correlation was seen between higher levels of mobility and higher levels of participation.
